WARD Constructs Six New Boreholes in Drought-Affected Regions Across Somalia

Somalia — The Watchful Association for Relief and Development (WARD) has successfully completed the drilling of six boreholes in multiple regions severely affected by drought and chronic water shortages.

The newly constructed Wall were drilled in the following districts:

Bakool, Kismaayo, Jalalaqsi, Gedo, Jowhar And Beledweyne (Buula Burde area).

These interventions span across the Federal Member States of South West State, Hirshabelle, and Jubaland, where communities have been struggling for years due to lack of access to clean and reliable water sources.

During the inauguration of the boreholes, WARD’s Executive Director, Mr. Abukar, together with other senior officials from WARD and local authorities from each district, highlighted the urgent need for sustainable water solutions in drought-stricken areas.

Mr. Abukar stated:
“Access to clean water is a basic human right. These boreholes are part of WARD’s long-term commitment to strengthening community resilience and supporting families affected by recurring droughts.”

Local leaders and community representatives expressed their gratitude to WARD, emphasizing that the newly drilled boreholes will greatly reduce water shortages, improve health conditions, and support livelihoods dependent on water access.

The construction of these boreholes is part of WARD’s broader strategy to enhance water availability, promote public health, and mitigate the impact of climate-related crises across Somalia.

WARD continues to work closely with communities, government institutions, and partners to deliver sustainable and life-changing humanitarian solutions.
